James Abram Garfield (November 19, 1831 – September 19, 1881) was the 20th President of the United States, serving from March 4, 1881 until his death due to complications from a bullet wound received during an assassination attempt on July 2, 1881. He also served nine terms as a U.S. Representative from Ohio's 19th Congressional District.
Garfield was born in a log cabin in Cuyahoga County, Ohio to Abram and Eliza Ballou Garfield.[1][2]
