Zachary Taylor (November 24, 1784 – July 9, 1850) was the 12th President of the United States of America, serving from March 4, 1849 until his death on July 9, 1850. He was the second president to die in office. Taylor ran as a Whig in the 1848 presidential election, defeating Lewis Cass. He was the second and last Whig to win an election, and was the last president to own slaves while president.
